Hi Karl
If you use the "StepWriter" in pete's modules you can write/notwrite at will, by putting a "constant" module in the Write field and typing !KeyDown in there. You will also need a ramp for indexing the "StepWriter" which will also need to be gated by this constant, I suggest the "UpDownCounter" module, but it depends on how you expect it to function.

In case this is useful: Four-track looper LITE in Live capture & looping.kym in the Sampling folder of the Kyma Sound Library is an example of how you can write into a very long chunk of memory (long Capture duration) and then read just the small segment of that memory that you actually recorded into. In effect, it is like having an indefinite caputure duration (just that it happens to have a max of 180 seconds).

I trimmed it down and it's now the exact sound I needed.
However there is a mistake in the Four-track looper LITE version:
LoopEnd !recordDuration in the Sample module should be divided by 90 instead of 180.
