Problem

I wanted to add that even though I have upgraded to OSX 10.2.8 on my Desktop computer - the graphics issues with 'smeared' appearances still persists. This happens often when the screen has gone to sleep.

A workaround is to either switch off sleeping or to close the offending window and re-open it.

Solution

This is not simply a cosmetic problem, it is possible for Kyma X to crash as a result of this bug. At this time, we recommend that you turn off display sleep in the Energy Saver panel of the System Preferences.

This is a bug in the Macintosh OS X OpenGL driver for certain video chips. We filed this bug in May 2003, Apple has acknowledged it, but has yet to fix it (even in Panther 10.3).
