Configuring the BCF2000 for use with Kyma

The BCF2000 motorized fader box can be used with Kyma 6.62 (and newer) and the Capybara-320 or the Paca(rana).

Set up

Connect the BCF2000 to the Capybara-320 through MIDI and to the Paca(rana) through MIDI or USB.

MIDI

  1. Connect the MIDI output of the Capybara-320 (or the MIDI output of the MIDI interface being used with the Paca(rana)) to the MIDI input on the back of the BCF2000.
  2. Connect the MIDI input of the Capybara-320 (or the MIDI input of the MIDI interface being used with the Paca(rana)) to MIDI output B on the back of the BCF2000.
  3. Turn on the BCF2000.
  4. On the BCF2000, press the EDIT and STORE buttons simultaneously. Rotate the TYPE rotary (leftmost rotary) to select S-3 as the interface mode.
  5. Press the EXIT button on the BCF2000.
  6. In Kyma, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, click the Performance button, and choose BCF2000 as the External MIDI Controller.

USB

  1. Connect the BCF2000 USB port to one of the USB ports on the back of the Paca(rana).
  2. Turn on the BCF2000.
  3. On the BCF2000, press the EDIT and STORE buttons simultaneously. Rotate the TYPE rotary (leftmost rotary) to select u-1 as the interface mode. OR Select "u-4" if you would like the MIDI In to be merged and sent to Kyma (allows you to plug your MIDI Keyboard / Controller into the BCF-2000 and send notes and other MIDI data to Kyma)
  4. Press the EXIT button on the BCF2000.
  5. Select the "BCF2000 (USB) on the MIDI Input and Output on the DSP Status.
  6. In Kyma, choose Preferences from the Edit menu, click the Performance button, and choose BCF2000 as the External MIDI Controller.

Please note, unconfirmed reports of MTC not being passed though from the BCF-2000 MIDI In to Kyma. (Notes & CC's work fine.)

Use

When Kyma first starts (or when you select the BCF2000 as Kyma's external MIDI controller in the Preferences), Kyma will load a temporary preset into the BCF2000 (indicated by a circular pattern on the BCF2000 display). This preset is forgotten whenever you turn off the BCF2000 and is reloaded whenever you start Kyma or select the BCF2000 in the Preferences.

Whenever a Sound is played in Kyma, its virtual control surface will be automatically mapped to the BCF2000:

There are a few other, extra functions (see the diagram above).

Note that the BCF2000 will be locked in Kyma mode after Kyma has initialized it. Power-cycle the BCF2000 to use it with other software.
