1. Insert the Kyma X installation CD-ROM into the computer.
2. Using the Start menu, move to the All Programs entry, then over to the Accessories entry, and choose Windows Explorer.
3. In Windows Explorer, click on the + next to My Computer to show all of your computer’s drives, select the CD-ROM (called Kyma X Install) from the list on the left, select the Kyma folder on the CD-ROM (shown on the right side of the window), and then choose Copy from the Edit menu.
4. Now, from the list on the left, select the disk on which you would like to install Kyma (typically Local Disk (C:)) and choose Paste from the Edit menu.
5. Wait while the files are copied to your hard disk.
6. Some files have been compressed to fit on the CD-ROM. Open the Kyma folder you just copied onto your hard disk.
7. In that folder, right-click on Samples.zip, choose Extract all from the pop up menu, click Next on the introduction page, click Next again to start the extraction, and click Finish when decompression has completed. (If you use WinZip or some other third-party file compression utility, please see the note below.)
8. Finally, right-click on Samples.zip, and choose Delete from the pop up menu.
9. Repeat this procedure for Samples 3rd Party.zip, Spectra.zip, and Tau Files.zip.
10. Next, pre-install the drivers needed for the Paca(rana). If you are using Windows 8, please follow the instructions below. Inside the Kyma folder, double-click the Kyma X.app folder. Inside the folder, double-click on InstallDriver.vbs and follow the on-screen instructions.
11. Create a desktop shortcut for easily starting Kyma: inside the Kyma X.app folder, double-click on MakeDesktopShortcut.vbs.
12. The Kyma software is now installed, so you can close all of the windows that you had opened.
13. The Kyma documentation is provided in PDF form in the Documentation folder of the Kyma folder. If you do not already have the Adobe Reader 6.0 (or newer) software installed on your computer, we recommend that you visit the Adobe website (http://www.adobe.com) to download and install the free Adobe Reader software.

If you use WinZip or some other third-party file compression utility, be sure that the contents of each zip file is extracted into a folder with the same name as the zip file. For example, the contents of Samples.zip should end up in a folder called Samples within the Kyma folder.

Installing Drivers for Windows 8

By default, Windows 8 prevents the use of any "unsigned" driver information files (INF files), even if the INF files install only Microsoft-written drivers. In order to install the Microsoft-written drivers that Kyma uses, Windows has to be restarted in a mode that temporarily disables the check for a driver signature.

1. Open PC Settings, click on General, and then click on Restart now under the Advanced startup section in the right pane.
2. After the computer has restarted, you will see the startup options menu. In that menu, click on Troubleshoot.
3. From the Troubleshoot page, choose Advanced Options, then choose Startup Settings.
4. From the Startup Settings page, choose Disable driver signature enforcement and click on Restart.
5. After Windows 8 has restarted, locate the Kyma folder. Inside the Kyma folder, double-click the Kyma X.app folder. Inside that folder, double-click on InstallDriver.vbs and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Restart your computer to restore driver signature enforcement.
