Live one-dimensional Cellular Automata as Controls in Kyma
Kyma.5 veterans remember two cellular automata prototypes that precomputed the evolution of the automaton before starting to play. Here is a new version that evolves as you listen to it! You can insert a 1 into any position by pressing the appropriate button. You can also insert random 0s and 1s into the array by pressing the Inject button. Included are: a live version of the old RythmicCellularAutomaton and the "chordal" version that turns oscillators on or off depending on the state of their corresponding cells. There is also a first attempt at controlling the triggers and parameters of granular synthesis using a cellular automaton.
Basic intro to cellular automata

For a table showing how the Rules define the next state, here is a
table from one of Wolfram's books
