Special interests:
Otto has always been keenly interested in CREATIVITY, in contrast to skill and competence. He has formulated a theory of music around notions of the compositional process, rather than "pieces" as external artifacts (see J. Tabor's OTTO LASKE: NAVIGATING NEW MUSICAL HORIZONS, Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1999). Otto is also a published lyric poet, and is highly interested in the use poetry and language in musical composition. His collected German poetry (1955-2000) is to appear under the title Schlesische Sprachschmiede (Silesian Language Smithy) in Munich, Germany, next year.
Otto invites artist colleagues of whatever age who want to benefit from his artistic experience in music and poetry, above all his expertise in algorithmic composition working with pre-computed scores. In his coaching, he emphasizes what an artist is developmentally ready for, and encourages a higher level of self-awareness of the artist's own process.
"As I know from personal experience of being a 'pioneer,' it is hard always to take responsibility for the quality of one's life, there being so many hindrances, including internal ones (e.g., obsession with work)".
Background and credentials:
